Who is the Judge

The phrase, “It’s All GREEK to me”…brings on a whole new meaning.

The Great Debaters is a deeply inspiring movie that I watched for the first time when I was in college. I don’t know what in the world possessed me to take Kione Greek, but I did, and regret doesn’t even come close to how I was feeling that semester. Let me give you a visual.

Throughout the movie, Denzel Washington has his students recite and repeat the lines below. I adopted and memorized this with a vengeance. I would recite it frequently to keep me motivated and remind myself “to find, take back, and keep” my mind. This kept me sane while attempting to learn one of the most difficult languages I’ve ever studied! I learned how significant the role of knowing and speaking your truth could be.

My opponent was Greek. What is your opponent? Who is your dissenting voice in your life? Think it over and maybe this refrain can help you overcome them, as I did.

Who is the judge?

The judge is God!

And why is he God?

Because, he decides who wins or loses, not my opponent.

And who is your opponent?

He doesn’t exist.

And why doesn’t he exist?

Because, he is a dissenting voice to the truth I speak.
