Don’t look so closely at the lines
Or examine too carefully the cracks intertwined
The chips and shards
I’ve earned them all — each and every one
My lines scatter, splintered — unkind
Cracks like fissures — deep and wide
Chipped like a delicate china teacup
Shards of sea glass — jagged and rough
A striking old grandfather clock reveals my story
Telling the time it took for this fractured heart to beat once more
One too broken, too heavy — too hurt to work
