The Dutiful Wife

No one is coming to save you this time. Hold on to the reins, you’re in for a ride. But no one is on your side. So don’t wait around wishing and hoping.

There is

No honorable knight

No white horse

No white flag

NO REMORSE!

Not in this fight.

So, what choice do I have?

I must make myself small. My heart meek, my mind mild, be humble and penitent.

The dutiful wife.

    1. Yeah. Makes me feel nauseous…so obligatory and abrupt.

      1. Oooh obligatory another nasty nasty word. The difference in energy between something that is forced and something freely given is palpable in these words.

No! No! No! No! No! You should be writing about a dutiful husband. You have no need to be small, meek, mild, and penitent. Just the opposite.

    1. What if that’s the only way to make peace with say, family?

I suppose that’s an unfortunate reality. Does it make a lasting peace?

      2. What if it did? But the price was high – to the determinant of one’s own mental health.

  5. The one thing that is common to all of us humans is – difference—different sex, looks, cultures, religions, etc. It’s a long list. What is essential is that none of us is realistically able to judge another’s circumstances, or the decisions that led to those. For this reason, it’s difficult to comment on whether one party in a relationship should be ‘dutiful’ while enduring narcissistic punishment from the other. As the author, Eleanor, you are the only one qualified to judge. Is your piece fictional or a personal experience, and I’m not asking. As a fictional piece, it’s an attention-drawing opening for a crime novel. If personally, I would not venture to make a comment bar, ‘the author knows.’ I know this for sure – grand to have you back in action! Blessings, Peter-James.
