During these tumultuous times we should examine our convictions and listen closely to our conscience. I urge you to do so! Please heed these wise words:
“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular.”
— Edward R. Murrow
Like this tree, I hope to remain, as I hope you will as well, come what may of our country.
As an American, I must say for the first time in my life: I feel unsafe. My heart breaks.
Considering the happenings in the world at this time, we might all be forgiven for feeling this way. Edward R Murrow speaks encouraging words, and personally, I welcome anything positive that comes from any media source. Whether this be from us, little bloggers, or the newsreel giants, I believe that there has never been a time when so much disinformation has been disseminated to so many people in such a short period in human history. Amid all this, I say to myself, ‘Peter-James, what can you do about this?’ If it appears there is something I can do, then I do it with all commitment. If not, then I carry on with my life, not being intimidated, but enjoying what I do have in my life; I will do this until I stop breathing. My motto: ‘Confortare Numquam’ – Take courage and NEVER give UP.
I live in Michigan. We been a mix of all races and religion for 80 years. We still respect people. I worry for our world also. We need our leaders to create less separation. Not more. Hateful words must be stopped. In the USA. We are all Americans. We must get along.
Thanks for caring and speaking out Eleanor. It’s sad that our country has come to this. I can only hope for enlightened leadership and/or the people standing up for unity, compassion, and saner choices.
